Every day we hear about the number of positive or negative COVID-19 results in our country, state and county. We hear these numbers, but sometimes we forget that those numbers represent people; they represent our community members, our co-workers, our friends, and our family.
So, what is it like to be one of those numbers? We asked a member of our Kaleida Health family, Karen, RN, about her recent COVID-19 testing experience.
Karen begins, "Well, I had a few of the symptoms that we keep watching out for – chest pain, weakness, and a dry cough. While I never had a temperature, I was concerned, and I knew I had to get tested. I was definitely a little scared, but I knew it was my responsibility to get tested. It’s just the right thing to do, not only for myself, but for everyone else around me."
As the situation with COVID-19 has evolved, areas all over the country have tried to keep up with the demand for testing. Since March 16, the Kaleida Health Laboratories team has analyzed over 3,200 COVID-19 tests. In mid-March, dozens of tests a day were analyzed, but now, the labs have the capacity to process nearly 400 tests a day.
Karen chose to get tested at one of our Kaleida Health Laboratories testing sites after calling the Coronavirus Hotline at 716-859-3222, which is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Karen notes, "It was really easy. I called, described my symptoms, and they found an appointment slot for me. That was it. The actual testing procedure was very quick, and I really felt that all of the safety precautions were being taken seriously for everyone’s benefit."
Now, scheduling an appointment is even easier with our online option. Kaleida Heath employees should click the green "Employee Testing" button within the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates for Employees and Providers box on KaleidaScope and answer the questions. If deemed eligible, the tool will take you through an online scheduling tool to make your appointment to get tested.
If you have any questions, please contact the Coronavirus Hotline at 716-859-3222, seven days a week, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
At Kaleida Health, the safety of our staff remains our priority, and we want to make testing as easy and efficient as possible. Thank you all for your hard work. With your help, we will remain #KaleidaStrong.
