The phrase, "it takes a village" has never rang more true than in the fight against COVID-19. So many important members of our Kaleida Health team deserve acknowledgement and recognition for their efforts. Today we want to thank our Environmental Services (EVS) team for all of their hard work over the past few weeks.
Across our Kaleida Health facilities, there are over 400 EVS employees. We would not be able to provide high quality care to our patients without them. While the need for cleanliness is at an all-time high during this pandemic, the EVS team has stepped up to face this challenge head on.
As we collectively work to try to limit the spread of COVID-19, our infection prevention team has worked closely with the EVS team to determine best practice processes to further enhance our cleaning process. The safety of our staff and our patients remain our priority, and, the EVS team is a key player in this endeavor.
Louis Giza, assistant director of EVS at Buffalo General Medical Center said, "Our EVS team is just a hardworking group of individuals. We are disinfecting patient rooms and the entire hospital to help try and ensure the safety of our staff and patients. It’s an incredibly important job. We try to envision every patient as if they were a friend or family member, and make sure we do our best to keep our facilities clean and disinfected to fight this virus as best as we can."
It’s also important to remember that it is not just our EVS team’s responsibility to keep our facilities clean. Everyone must play a role. As always, we encourage all of our staff to please wipe down work stations before handoff, clean equipment after use, and practice good hand hygiene.
Donni Marshall, EVS aide adds, "I feel that everyone on our floor, we’re all in the same boat. Just trying to fight against this virus. We’re all doing the best we can, and there’s a team feeling here."
While we have always been lucky to have all of our EVS team members at Kaleida Health, we want to stress just how grateful we are for each and every one of you. We appreciate your efforts to keep our facilities clean and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Your hard work does not go unnoticed and with your help, we remain #KaleidaStrong.
