As Kaleida Health shared yesterday in its official statement regarding elective surgeries, we are still awaiting official written directives from New York State.
For example, does this only mean elective/planned surgery that requires an overnight stay, does this impact same-day procedures, etc. We are advocating that Erie County (all hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, etc.) keep same-day and emergent procedures versus those that require an overnight stay (“inpatient electives”), which is similar to what we implemented last week when we began to postpone and reschedule non-emergent procedures that would require lengthy hospital stays. This was done in conjunction with Kaleida Health’s Surgical Executive Committee.
Once we get further direction and information from New York State regarding restriction or resumption of cases, we will communicate appropriately with our physicians, staff and patients.
Kaleida Health has been working with Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) plus Governor Cuomo’s team in Western New York and Albany to find out more information about how these new requirements will impact our operations and ability to continue to provide care for patients.
