Matt Drake, MBA, CMA, FHFMA, has been named interim chief financial officer (CFO) for Kaleida Health.
Drake will assume the role currently held by Paul Belter, executive vice president and CFO for Kaleida Health, who is retiring in December.
“On behalf of the entire Kaleida Health family, I want to thank Paul for his work and contributions this past year,” said Bob Nesselbush, CEO of Kaleida Health. “Stabilization of our financial position was a priority for us; he and the entire finance team get credit for helping us reach that goal. We wish him and his family well as he transitions into the next phase of his life.”
Belter said, "I am proud to have worked with this dedicated management team and, in particular, the organization’s first-class finance team. I know they will continue to successfully support the ongoing strategy and initiatives of Kaleida Health, despite the current challenges of COVID and an ever-changing world of healthcare delivery. I wish the organization nothing but the best in the future.”
Drake joined the organization earlier this year as vice president and CFO, site financial operations. In this role, he has led overall financial leadership for the various operating entities and divisions within Kaleida Health, working to ensure overall financial performance and operational targets. He has also been responsible for developing and implementing the operational plan that drives the annual budget process.
This past year, Drake has helped with financial education and leadership to hospital managers and directors, contributed financial expertise in strategic planning of current and new services and has been an integral member of the organization’s growth committee.
In this interim CFO role, Drake will also lead strategy and growth initiatives for the organization.
Drake was recruited from Rochester Regional Health, where he served as vice president of business development and network growth. As the business development leader of the $2.9 billion health system, Drake led efforts to expand the network of providers, hospitals, ambulatory destination campuses and urgent care centers. He also led the planning and implementation of five ambulatory destination campuses; business planning process for a 3-hospital health system acquisition; and acquisition of 80 practices, representing 140 physicians and 86 advanced practice providers.
Previous roles at Rochester Regional Health included: vice president of accountable care, Greater Rochester IPA (GRIPA); director of finance, population health and business planning; director of financial planning and decision support; manager of financial systems, planning and decision support; and project and cost manager. Prior to joining Rochester Regional Health, Drake was a revenue management analyst at Excellus Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Rochester.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Alfred University. He is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA), and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
